Legifrance Verification

A legal reference quoted from memory is a reference to check. Légifrance Verification finds the articles cited in your documents on Légifrance and tells you whether they are still in force.

Results you can expect

  • Makes updating your legal documents easier
  • Reduces manual verification time
  • Contributes to the reliability of your documents

How it works

  1. Paste your text. A clause, a contract or a memo citing legal articles.
  2. References are identified. The AI picks out the articles of codes, laws, decrees and ordinances explicitly cited.
  3. Each article is looked up on Légifrance. The platform finds it from the code, the text number and the article number, through the French government’s official PISTE API.
  4. You see its status and its text. In force, repealed or amended, with the reference of the version in force, or the date on which a new version will apply.
  5. What remains to be checked is flagged. A reference that cannot be found is flagged with its reason (code not recognised, text not covered by Légifrance…), never presented as correct.

Use cases

  • Business owner: check the articles cited in a contract you received before signing it.
  • Legal or office manager: review your document templates after a reform.
  • Consultant: make sure the references in a client memo exist and are in force.
  • SME: spot in your terms of sale an article that has been repealed, amended or whose end is already scheduled.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the text of the articles come from?

From Légifrance, through the French government’s official PISTE API, queried at every check.

Which texts are checked?

French law published on Légifrance: codes, laws, decrees and ordinances. EU law, such as the GDPR, and collective agreements are flagged as not covered.

What if an article has been renumbered?

The check covers the version applicable today: the text displayed shows whether the cited article has changed subject since the document was written.

Does the tool give legal advice?

No. It checks that the cited articles exist, their status and their text; interpretation remains a matter for a legal professional.
